No, really. I. LOVE. my. job.
Where else can I set my own hours, work with wonderful people, be paged when my daughter is hungry, and not worry about her at all? Yup. I’m one lucky gal.
The typical things that hinder new moms from returning to work aren’t there. I don’t have to worry about switching to formula or the dreaded bathroom-stall pumping. The nursery just calls me when Ava’s hungry, and I can go attend to her needs. I know she’s with someone trustworthy. I can peer in at any time and make sure she’s not crying in a corner or anything like that. (So far, none of the kids there have been in unattended in distress) I don’t have to rush around to drive way out of my way to find a day care center that will take her. Nor do I have to pay the exhorbitant fees.
I realize I am lucky.
But my question is: Why aren’t more jobs like this? We know that women are intelligent, quality workers. Why aren’t more companies and workplaces providing such serivces for their workers?
