So the rain and floodwaters came, and they are starting to leave. The damage is devastating for many people. Some homes have water up to the middle of their first floor. The creeks and river were quite poweful, even tearing up blacktopping on some roads. Hopefully the homeowners can recover quickly.
I wonder though– we are the only major town on the Susquehanna that does not have levees or other forms of flood protection. Why is that? What is preventing this town from taking action to preserve homes? Major floods have been occurring nearly every other year for the past 10. Why would we continue to subject 25% of this town to that destruction? I’ll never understand the priorities of some politicians.
I am quite glad that my family and friends are all safe and sound. Please pray for those who were flooded. They’ll need it.
