Baseball has started, and out in San Francisco things are looking pretty good this year. Barry Bonds is pretty healthy (for a 42—going on 43—year old), and the Giants signed the other Bay Area Barry, Barry Zito of the Oakland A’s to pitch now for the Giants. MSNBC has a good article on how Zito compliments Bonds.

So now that the season is beginning (and at this exact time, San Francisco is down 3-0 to the San Diego Padres in the 4th inning), how well do I think the Giants are going to do? I have paid little attention to the pre-season, but I am hoping the Giants can win the NL West. They are good enough to compete, and stay close to the top. It just depends on how well Bruce Bochy can keep his team gelled.

(UPDATE)

Unfortunately the Giants lost the opener by a score of 7-0 to the Padres. That’s their first opening day shutout since 1967, and one of the worst opening day starts in Giants history. Not a good sign. :(
